'Malaysian Gods' at Dubai International Film Festival

Coincidentally, I know Amir personally since end of 90s as a writer and he has been in film making since some time. Last time I met him was last year during a dialogue.

It is good to know his latest film, will be in DIFF. I will definitely be there.

Another coincidental, Abdulhamid Juma, the DIFF chairman is also a friend whom I know since my Dubai Internet City's days.

Synopsis

In September 1998, Anwar Ibrahim was sacked as Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia. His expulsion and subsequent trial for corruption and sodomy triggered a wave of street protests by his supporters and those who were against the authoritarian rule of the government. 'Malaysian Gods' takes a look at several pivotal protests that took place in the year following his sacking. It eschews archival footage in favour of interviews with people who are living, working in or visiting the actual locations of the demonstrations, to discover what people now have to say about their lives, hopes and dreams.

Warning: the documentary is not propaganda at all! Just an affectionate portrait of a city :-)
